We walked in the door of this place last night and it wasnt very busy.   We made our way to the bar area thinking that we could get some food fairly quickly so we could get on with our evening.

The first clue that things werent going well is that it took quite a while before anyone even acknowledged that we were there.   We eventually placed our order then time ticked and ticked and ticked some more.  I was thinking, "hmm, we didnt order anything complicated...it was basic bar food"..   This is when the manager came over and notified us that one of the plates were dropped on the floor and they had to make a new one.

Weeeelll, eventually the food made its way to our table and the only reason this review gets 2 stars is because the food was pretty good once we were able to eat it.

After we were done, we waited and waited and waited some more for someone to bring the check.   Finally!!  I see our server walking by so I just handed her a credit card to get the process going.   She ended up taking 25% off the tab which was a nice effort to try to correct the issues described above but I still couldn't bring myself to add a 3rd star for that.

Meh!  I've only been once, but I'd only go back if a friend really wants to go there.  It was a few steps up from airplane food, though the roll I got was actually on right par with airline cuisine (coach class, baby!).

We only had take-out, and I only expected a 3-star meal from perusing Yelp reviews before going.   On the other hand, my brother's wife and her sister really like this chain, plus I remember some Yelpers yearning for BJ's food on talk threads, so I thought it'd be worth a try.

They appear to like frying things at BJ's, menu items you wouldn't expect to be that fried or greasy.  I got a a Sesame Chicken Salad for myself.  I my usual questions (does the dressing have MSG? does the chicken have nitrates?) and was pleased with the answers, no on both counts.

My salad had these fried wontons that I picked around (very greasy, not what I look for in a salad).  The dressing was blah and the chicken was dry and tasted like it came out of an institutional kitchen.

I picked up a California Grilled Chicken Sandwich for the husband, which came with some of the most fried fries we've ever tasted.  I chose the thick cut fries, but I would call them the cardiac special with an extra thick fried layer before you get to the potato inside.  Hubby said the sandwich smacked of mass-production and didn't leave him wanting more.

Neither the Mr. nor I were impressed.

For how crowded this place gets they do a pretty good job of taking care of people (I'm speaking for my experience!).

Whenever I go to BJ's I never make reservations. I probably should but what I feel like eating at 4pm might not be the same thing I feel like eating at 7 so for that reason (and laziness) I'll always wait. The last time I went was around 8 on a Saturday night and we had a party of 4. The wait was only about 15 minutes and from the look of it it seemed like it was a packed house. Getting seated so early was a surprise although I've never waited longer than 30 minutes here.

The scene is reminiscent of a vintage sports bar. There are TVs everywhere, a good beer selection (I wish I drank beer so I could actually appreciate this!), and there's that lemony pledge kinda feel at all the booths (a good thing!). The crowd here is pretty diverse so no worries on not fitting in. Although the place seems packed the dining area is spaced out enough to be able to enjoy your company and not catch too much of your neighbor's conversation.

Service is good. The waiter I had was very friendly and attentive. Since they were really busy he made a point to apologize for any extended waits we may experience and to just flag him down if he's slacking. Sounds a bit casual but we (my party) were comfortable and I felt for him and his 8 hour waiting shift...:T. Despite his advanced apology he really didn't need to apologize at all. Service was on point, we never had to ask for refills and he even came around to remind us about dessert which i NEVER refuse here! PIZOOOKIESSS MMMMMMMMMMM!

The plates are huge here so even though the menu leans more towards the expensive side you get what you pay for. The clam chowder was enough to fill me up but I still pick off of everyone else's plates! They have salads, steaks, fish.... your basic American dinner I guess is the best way to describe it? Trust me the food is pretty filling.

Pizookies..... you HAVE to get one while you're here. there's no excuse and when you go home and try to make one it won't work. I've tried :(.

I like this location a lot better than the Cupertino location because of the parking. Easy access to the car, easy to leave to get the bridge, then easy time to crawl out of the car and into bed from food coma.

Nice!

The best thing this place has to offer is great pizza, the beer is good, I prefer the nutty brewnette or the red. Other then that I wasnt too happy with rest of the entree's, a few of the appetizer's are good, the santa fe rolls or the avocado egg rolls.

One other thing i like is they have an early and late night happy hour which is great cause my work schedule only allows me to get there after ten, they offer all the beers at a dollar off and mini pizza's at half off, i think the  appetizer's are discounted, i cant remember. If you try this place out make sure you at least try the pizza, I think you cant go wrong.

Something else i should mention , i noticed they almost always have one person waiting the table's in the bar area at night so dont be surprised if the service in there is slow, i would say 6 out of 10 times it is depending on how busy it is.

We're here in the Bay Area for the weekend and ordered takeout for a late-night snack. The only reason we came here was because it was just about the only place that seemed to be open until midnight. The city of San Mateo seems to go to bed a lot earlier than where I'm from. Anyway, we ordered online, went to pick up our order, only to be told that their online ordering system is new with a lot of kinks, so they never got our order. The manager was very kind and apologetic, and he told us he would knock off 50% for flubbing up. That was very generous and much appreciated.

Apparently, they only serve appetizers, pizzas, and desserts late at night. We ended up ordering a lot because (1) it was going to be half-price for us, and (2) we were greedy. We got the appetizer sampler which came with tortilla chips & spinach & artichoke dip (yummy!), avocado egg rolls (OK but a little odd), Santa Fe spring rolls (meh), and mozzarella sticks (nothing spectacular). We also got an order of sweet onion strings (tasty but way too oily) and a mini vegetarian pizza (another meh). Yes, this was WAY too much food for two people, but hey, it cost us less than $13, and we just stuck the leftovers in the fridge.

We were told it would take about 12 minutes to get the order ready (seemed like an odd number - don't most people give you an estimate in 5-minute increments?), but it took more like 20 or 25. I'm giving this place 5 stars for the service and 3 stars for the food.

Went here for happy hour two days ago. Ordered two blonde ales, a bbq chicken pizza for the hubby and one chicken lettuce wraps for me. Service was up to par this time. I was pleased. We ate at the bar.

Those chicken lettuce wraps were pretty good. So I scored!

This place kind of gets a bad rap... I doubt I would go here for dinner but the lunch specials are awesome. You can get a half sandwich with fries an it includes a full salad either ceasar, house or wedge ... all for under $10.... not bad at all.
I haven't really had a bad food experience here... I mean .. you get what you expect... it's chain pub food.
If you are into a large menu and maybe getting a dessert not to mention some cute hostesses and waitresses ... go here.... oh yeah .. call ahead to get your name on the list.

BJ's, I want to like you. But you're so inconsistent. Your wedge fries tasted like they would have been good if they were hot. The fish pieces  in your Fish & Chips were...dry and chewy. Your tartar sauce tastes JUST LIKE McDonald's.

Those Poozokies are good, even if they taste like Easy Bake Oven cookies. Drown anything in ice cream, and I'm usually a happy camper.

I will admit, the beers seem to be quite good, or so the few "tasting" sips I took led me to believe.

Service was both good and bad (we had more than one server). Just a lot of oversights (no one checked on us after the food was served for 10 or so minutes, drinks went without refills, bar drinks took 10+ minutes, one beer took 15 minutes). Being that we were a large party (9) on a Saturday night in a crowded restaurant, I'm willing to give BJ's a lot more slack.

Minus two star for microwave-tasting food.
Minus one star for overcharging for microwave-tasting food.
Minus one star for the first waiter being so slow.
Plus one star for the second waiter being way more attentive.

I'd come back for the beer and the deserts. I'd get dinner somewhere else, personally.

Every time i go to Bjs its always busy, so as a result the service isn't so great, but i keep comming back for the food (which does take forever).
This time our server was Kathrine.  She took care of our needs and was an interesting person to talk to.  so for her i give a 5, but for all my experiences combined i give a 3. because it just takes too long to sit, get your drinks, food, ect.

PS. i looove the beer there!

Ok.. the only reason I dine here, is because my friends and family like to eat here.  There is like one dish that is okay, the chicken and pasta dish.  I have had their pizza, never again.  Restaurant tends to be on the crowded side, haven't figured out why yet.  Good place to watch the game.  Restaurant is also rather loud.  Parking is easy.  I guess you could say prices are fair.  Customer service is also pretty fair.

I do not know why I continue to come to this place.

Well, I do know why... my dd loves this place. I can't say she does so for any reason other that the cute waiters working there.

On our last visit it was so nice that we didn't have to wait long for a table. It was not so nice when we got sat at the last table in the place, right next to the kitchen. We saw our server three times... to order to bring the check and to get the change back... it's a good thing I didn't need anything else!

Every time a server came running out of the kitchen, I braced myself for a plate of food to come flying at me... fortunately I was not wearing white.

It was too loud,  service was shite and once again, and the food gave me a stomach ache. Even dd gave it thumbs down.

Star for the boy watching, no stars for food, service of atmosphere.

Went here the day after the 4th of July for lunch. No wait to be seated. The waiter was friendly and quick. He re-filled our drinks with-out us having to ask.
They have a very tasty turkey burger. I will definitely be back for their

Oh God, I hate all of you people who recommended this place on Yelp. I trusted you!!!!
They're open till midnight (did they mention, they mean the bar, not the restaurant is open till midnight??)
They don't have a full menu at night. Uh huh...
They don't have soup. (They accidentally threw it out.)
They don't have clean tables. (We stood there in the middle of the dining room while the server/host looked around at the manager who did NOTHING.
*Deep breath now*

The menu with the deep dish pizzas and ripped off versions of all that is CPK and Chilis related made me realize why everyone tell me not to eat here. Too bad it's so close to the hockey rink though.

Our server was wonderful, even if he was going back to San Diego and away from his dying grandmother (his words, not mine.)

Deep Dish Pizza: medicore
Appetizers: unimaginative and cold! unfortunately
Soup: defrosted?
Beer: not baaaaad
Server: knew how to work the pity points
Pasta: Clumpy and unseasoned
Desserts: Prepackaged but who doesn't love chocolate still?

Overall, I guess I'll stay away from chain restaurants. When the server came back to inform us they accidentally threw away the soup, I noticed the manager flirting with the host up in the front. Nice. Anyone ever see "Waiting?" Yeah, creepy manager flirting with underage chick cliche? Check and check.

If this place had a decent menu that wasn't stuffed with everything from every other chain restaurant, they'd have a decent chance. But no, no, they're doomed.

i actually really like coming to this place, even with big groups, because i generally think the service is good. i like the food, good beer, and the pizzas during happy hour are WAY reasonably priced.

now, when a restaurant is busy, i can totally understand why the service would be a little slow, but one time i took my uncle here (during happy hour - we were having a late lunch) and the service was inexplicably slow. there were only a few tables occupied, it took our waiter a good 15 minutes to initially show up and take our orders (we even put our menus down to show we were no longer browsing), and continued to disappear for long incraments of time. even when we wanted our check it took quite a while. additionally, it was also tough to flag down another server.

i would totally come back here again, but minus one star for that off experience.

Ok, so in the last 6 months we have gone here almost once a week...and were happy thus far. The last 2 times we went it was slower, crappier service (late or never served dishes, impossible to get our waitress to the table, etc). But the other night (NBA finals game 5), we sat at a table in the bar at normal dinner time. Zackary (you'll see why I remember his name) never once asked to refill our drinks, we never saw him after the food came (by someone else), we had to ask for clean table service since the napkin it was wrapped in was covered in crusty crud, had to ask for ketchup, water...on and on. Meanwhile, he didn't seem to have problems standing nearly half the time we were there around a bar table of giggling girls, twirling their hair and thinking he was SOOO funny (and cute).
Ole Zackary got no tip from us and thanks to him we may never go back.

There is much to love about BJ's, aside from the giggle-inducing name that allows me to taunt my guy friends with "Nyah nyah we're getting bjs and you're not!"

I love their deep dish pizzas (blackened chicken!), lemonade (sugared rims!), and pizookies (myocardial infarction!). The beer is decent enough (meh!) and the portions are huge (5 stars for marathon training!).

HOWEVER, this place ranks high on the Lame-O-Meter because the waitstaff was so inattentive. Let me know beforehand that I'm going to need to dance on the table to get a refill, and I'll make sure to pack some clear-heeled stilettos.

This is more a place of convenience than a destination.  I actually don't like their entrees much (I think a lot of them are pre-prepared and then heated).  I ordered the meatloaf once and the middle was cold while the outside was hot.

Service while generally friendly is slow and it always is on the busy side there.  So expect a wait for a table or to stand if you decide to go to the bar area.

So, why do I keep going?  I like their buffalo wings.  I just keep getting a craving for them.  So, most of the time, I just want to go have a brewhouse blonde or two and some wings.  I've found nothing else in their thick menu noteworthy.  Happy Hour isn't much of a bargain.  I think appetizers are a dollar or two cheaper during HH.

I give it a three for its wings and cuz I keep going, but it's really a two star place.

Yuk.

So second time around, I tried something else... i got the Calzone, with Pepperoni and Sausage.

The Calzone tasted like a frozen pizza... you know, that sauce taste and frozen sausage taste. I had planned to eat half and save the rest for next night's dinner, but I knew if I did that, I wouldn't want to eat it. So I did what's best and ate the whole awful thing in one sitting.

If I go back, I'm sticking to the bbq chicken pizza that I liked the first time.

Now  that last comment in my original review makes sense...

I love their huge menu! There's something for everyone.  Dined here last Tuesday after a 25 mile bike ride and I thought I deserved a burger since I rode with faster peeps. Of course I couldn't really keep up, but I know the only way I will get better is to ride with better peeps!

Anyways, I was impressed when I saw that Sourdough is an option for burger bread! YEAH!!! I went with a regular burger on sourdough with onion rings.  I had it medium and it was very good!!

Service was kinda spotty.  From the time we finished our entrees to when our dessert arrived was a very long wait.  BJ's is lucky we had a really good group and  we kept each other entertained.  Our drinks weren't refilled. In fact, I remember slurping on the melting ice of my water glass.

I hope I get better service next time I go back.

From being in SLO and loving the mom-and-pop, independent restaurants and shops, I'm back in the Bay and not too fond of these chain restaurants. It's not that they're bad, but I don't appreciate mass-food in mass-quantities anymore... unless it's Todai haha. So it's really nothing 100% against BJ's Restaurant, it's just these places in general I guess.

But onto specifics.

Most of the food on the menu is mediocre and not too memorable, with the exception of a few things... and I wished they'd slim down the menu (though people rave about how there's "something for everyone here,") because half the things like some pasta dishes and those 'pot stickers' that you can probably buy at Costco are, well, not really worth the money you throw down.

What IS worth my +/- $5 is the half-off, happy hour priced mini (10") pizzas!!! ANY OF THEM! As long as it's a mini size, it's half off... So that's cool. 3-7pm and then late at night again, and also a dollar off drinks... that's enough to keep me coming. And those delicious pizookies.

Holy mountain of food!

Boss' boss and some coworkers took me here for lunch for my first day on the new j.o.b.

The menu has a great variety of things to choose from. I had the meatloaf sandwich. It was excellent. I ate about 25% of it. Would have liked less food and smaller price but those are the breaks. The salad that came with it was totally forgettable - pre-made, saran wrapped, and refrigerated until serving time.

Food took a looong time to arrive at the table.

I'll go back to try something else now that I work in the area. For now it's just the meh 3 stars joint in my eyes.

Pizza....good
Pizookie....good
Waiting.....bad

I am pretty fond of BJ's I have many fond memories from my high school and college days.  This place seems like it is busy all the time though.  There are a bunch of other restaurants in this center, so sometimes you might have to hike a bit from where you park.  I have had pretty good service here, except for when our pager didn't work, and we waited for what seemed like forever.  Good place to go with some friends to sit and hang out.

This place can get crowded, especially for dinner on weekends.  If we come in before 6:00, we're usually seated pretty quickly.  Food here is OK, and portions are pretty large.  Kid's menu is pretty large as well.  The kid's spaghetti is pretty meaty and tasty.  The kids' drinks are 16 oz (oh, oh, pee-pee time)

In all of my visits, food has pretty consistent, wouldn't say outstanding, but good enough for me to make return visits.  Service is upbeat, and the servers do try to promo their specials.  Sometimes, the kitchen  will back up, but I've never had food that arrived lukewarm or cold.

i had forgotten all about this place until we needed somewhere near home and open late for a late celebration of geezerdom(bday)

of maybe the 8-10 times i've gone here, i've only really enjoyed 2 experiences and both were when my friends and I were seated close to the bar....  for some reason if you sit over yonder, you get the shittiest, air headed, forgot im the waiter your table jerkoff.....

anyways, last tuesday was no exception only i got the worse waiter in the world....  he forgot a few of our plates, never bothered to check if we needed refills on drinks, and gave us dirty napkins that were supposed to hold and keep my utensils clean...grooooooosssss....

i dont even remember our waiters name but i do know he used to work at the bed, bath beyond in the same shopping center...i wonder if bbb fired him for being stoopid.

the only time i saw this jerkoff walking his area was when he was collecting the bill......i noticed this during our dinner and mentioned it to my sisters and bro in law...... sure enough... as much as he ignored us all night, once he brought out the bill, he lingered around and never went to to the back of house....what a bastard.... he was probably itching for his tip... too bad his ass get any.

anyways...if it was based on this last nights excursion i would rate bjs as a one...but because my other visits were tolerable and two very memorable, i'll give it a two.

oh... food is alright.... i mean its slightly better than mediocre, the atmosphere is coo... stick close to the bar for the best experiences.....  the farther away from the bar, the suckier the waiter....

otherwise, i like thats its big and noisy guests are okay.....

Great place to watch a ballgame and have a couple of brews.  Multiple High Def screens...with the exception of the largest screen in the Bar.   A 10' projection-type screen with dull features.  But it's cool, you can still make everything out.

The staff was overly attentive in the restaurant section.  WORK DAT TIP!   The food is kool.  My homegirl had this "Blackened Baked Potato" monstrosity.  Effin HUGE!  Needless to say, she had 3 beers and 3 forkfuls...DONE!   I had an appetizer and their 1/2 lb Burger.  Pretty good.

The Beer at this place will remind you of GORDON BIERSCH  a lil.  Not the taste...just their signature collection of brews, pale ales, and microbrews.  Great thing about BJ's now is that they've finally stocked themselves up with outside liquor vendors.  So yeah, they serve actual alcohol in this place now...sweet!

I have to say they have the BEST deep fried onions that I have ever tasted. Such a freaking good appetizer. Food takes a while and I like the Blonde drink. Great place to hang out after work.

A big group of us (about 14) came here after a teambuilding event (indoor skydiving - yay!!). It luckily was not lunch, but not quite dinner time, so they were able to accommodate us.

We went crazy with beer, margaritas, food, and last of all, the Pizzooki. I had heard tell of its magical mindblowing qualities. And I was not disappointed.

Never tried the food here, so I can't really say much about it.  My friends and I just came here to drink.  My friend's friend wanted to meet here to build up a lesbian community so we were just here to support her... Besides us, only two other people showed up (kinda sad haha), and they were old.. So that makes just the 5 of us.

Geez, I have a high alcohol tolerance, but they were really trying to get me drunk! Luckily I didn't have to pay for any of the alcohol... We had 2 rounds of beer (apparently their brewed beer is famous all over) and my friend and I had tequila shots (THEY'RE HUGE..), plus I had a screwdriver (it was so strong.. I wanted to gag b/c of such a high alcohol content..), and we had vodka cranberries, and margaritas.  Yummy...
My friend I came with got really drunk really fast and apparently she has a high alcohol tolerance too.. I guess she didn't have anything to eat though..  And she held my hand really hard under the table.. hahaha.. I was like, woah...
We went outside for a smoke and we were all guessing ages (if we didn't know how old we all were) and I told my friend and her friend that they looked early 20s, and then the old lesbo who tagged along got really excited and was like, how old do i look!?!?
And note that I was starting to get a little drunk, so I was starting to tell more of the truth... so I was like, umm... 48?
and she was like, really? that old?
and I was like, ohh shit... I'm going to get my ass kicked now...
and I went, Yeah.. you do.

and my friends were like, oh shit.. we better run away...
and the old looking woman was like, I'm 34!
and I went, oh.. you don't look that young LOL...  Dangggg..

Anyway, good night after we sobered up..

2nd time I came here was about a week after, when I was supposed to meet up with my friend to go to the beach.  But on the way, I got into a car accident on the highway (fucking retarded people..)
So I came kinda late and I was sooo depressed b/c of my beautiful car turning into a glorious piece of shit, so when I arrived, my friend felt bad and brought me here again for more drinks..

Yeah.. Best way to heal a broken heart is by drinking...
So  we ordered a bunch of cocktails and beer, and the girl who held my hand earlier drove over immediately when she heard I was here...

Anyway.. was sooo depressed..

..What was I talking about? Uhm....
The restaurant is alright... The bathrooms look cool when you're drunk... I mean.. they're clean...
The best part about coming here for a drink is that they don't card you (I forgot to bring my ID) and yet they still let me drink, so whatever.  4 stars

Lame! The service was so slooooooww, and it wasn't even busy during lunchtime. Unacceptable. I think my senses woke up and realized the mediocrity of their food in the process.

This place is 100 times better than Elephant Bar. Great beer and big portions. What more could you ask for?

I try to have something new each time. On my last visit, I had the black olive and pepperoni deep dish. Wow. The best meals I've had are the chicken fried steak, Jambalaya, and of course the deep dish pizza. Don't come here if you are not hungry.

If you're into beers, the wait for a table can be short. The service is what you expect for a popular place.

My husband loves this place, and always gets the beer sampler so he can try everything.  BJ's is great for me and the kids too since the food is excellent!!!  We usually order the Brewhouse Nachos and split a cheese with mushroom Deep Dish Pizza.  Yum-O!!!  Remember Uno's Pizzeria?  BJ's Deep Dish is definately much better than that! Perfect texture and crispness, never soggy.   The portions are large and we always leave with our pizza craving fully satisfied.  Best time to go is for early lunch (around 11:00 a.m.).  Not too crowded at that time.

Big portions for decent prices.  This location is not as crowded as the Tanforan location in SSF/San Bruno.  Maybe cuz it's not in a mall?

Great place for big parties. Got a sports bar and flat screen TVs.

I've had their pizza before and it was good - both deep dish and thin crust.  My favorite is the chicken wings appetizer.

Food was decent and beer on tap was not half-bad. Servers seemed content with providing just enough service to leave you be on a casual date.
