I had never been here until today. I was so excited when I walked in the door that I almost forgot to breathe. It was glorious and I couldn't pick-up items fast enough and put them in my shopping basket. The place is organized, and clean, and the prices are wonderful. Oh, yes, one more thing, there are plenty of shady characters wandering about, but as long as you look like you mean business, no one bothers you.
I used to come here quite frequently with one of my best friends on our way home from school because she liked looking at little kid t-shirts. I was only in it for the vintage mohair scarves.
One thing: I can't say enough good things about the handmade pillowcase SHARK costume I bought here for like $5. I LOVE IT more than someone my age should like a shark costume. It seriously rules so hard that I wore it to school (HIGH SCHOOL) once just because I felt like it. In hindsight, I'm not sure what could have prompted me to decide that wearing a shark costume to school not on Halloween would be a good idea, but you know, whatever.

I have found many great items here over the years (been shopping here all my life), but the store has become more and more run down over the years, and the prices have gone up.
This didn't bother me so much in the past because I guess that I would rather have low prices in a thrift store than atmosphere, but that all ended last week.
I was upstairs perusing the bad furniture and bad book selection and walked down the stairs to meet my mom. One of the stairs was damaged and the "fix" was to put a large piece of tape to repair the missing piece of stair that had cracked off. I caught my heel and took a major fall down the last 4 stairs. Twisted my knee, bruised my ankle, and tore my jeans.
This place used to be fairly decent for finding vintage clothes, inexpensive used books, and random household crap. To be honest though, it was my second stop after hitting up the now closed Thrift Center around the corner. Now THAT place was rad. I guess I'm dating myself when I say thrift stores just aren't what they used to be. This Savers is dirty, crowded, messy and overpriced. I think people pee in the fitting rooms. Whenever I go in here, I always wonder what the hell I'm doing back in here after the last unsatisfying experience. Meh.

Pros:
Department store of second hand items
Everything is cheap, unlike Salvation Army thrift store
Sometimes you get the item for even cheaper than the price tag. I bought a mug there that said 99 cents it ended up ringing up as 47 cents.
A large selection in almost every section.
Kids clothes looked like the best selection.
Lots of records, perfect for the collector.
Cons:
Electronics may not have cords, be sure to look closely before thinking of buying.
Very small section for plus sizes.
Shoes look pretty haggard, and good luck finding the matching one if you like a pair.
Many babies with dirty diapers smelling up the place
You need at least an hour to spare if you walk into this store, even with something in mind to look for.

UPDATE 4/7/08
Eeesh! In the last 3 months this place has managed to get even worse! They've rearranged the store and there's no rhyme or reason whatsoever. They've moved all the linens and soft goods downstairs, so now the floor is even more crammed and cramped. Half of the spacious upstairs is now devoted to furniture, which makes poor use of that much space. The books have no organization whatsoever. Back downstairs, the clothing racks are barely organized into sizes anymore, and there are clothes on the floor every few feet! The dressing rooms have deteriorated the worst; last time there were over 25 left behind items in each room, on the bench, hook and floor. Horrible. Seems very short staffed now and not a smile to be seen.Prices continue to creep upward as well, c'mon you guys, its a THRIFT store, everything is USED, remember??? Its hard to give up such a large resale store but I've had it, not going back.

I've been going to Saver's for many years now, used to be my favorite
thrift store but has gone downhill. The prices have definitely crept up over the last couple years. Of course you can still find good deals but you have to dig a lot longer than you used to. Its often crowded to the point of craziness; those narrow aisles and unsupervised kids all over the place, bring the Tylenol because you WILL get a headache. The dressing rooms are horrible, always dirty and always a long wait. Doesn't seem understaffed but the aisles are usually a mess, clothes on the floor, funky smell in the air...and I've seen cleaner bathrooms at deserted gas stations. Eeesh.
The books are overpriced too, and not a flat price like Goodwill.
They do have sales, but they are INSANELY crowded when there are so I don't even attempt it anymore.
Still, if you have time, don't mind the crowds and mess, you might find something good here.

Most thrift stores are pretty funky. Savers is funkier than most. The smell of mothballs and old closet permeates the building. The army of red vest-clad Hispanic gals who work here continually stock the shelves and comb the aisles for dropped items. Some of the clientele can be very interesting. Yes, it takes a little digging past the items that have seen better days to find the good stuff, but that's part of the fun!
I've found some great stuff here over the last couple years, including a beautiful red blazer for 2 bucks so nice that I wore it to an interview.
However, dressing rooms are woefully inadequate, womens shoe selection is usually crappy, and it can be crowded. And I'm always expecting the stairways to the mezzanine to give way.
The large collection of used electronics on the mezzanine is a sad commentary on the pace of change in our world. This time they only had one external Zip drive; once last year they had a whole stack of 'em!
Today I ducked in to get out of the rain. (Unfortunately it was raining harder when I left!) An hour and a half later, I walked out with a lovely feminine 2-pc outfit in like-new condition which is perfect for springtime, an artsy jacket that just needs some ironing, two glasses from street fairs for my sister-in-law, a votive candle holder from W Hotel, a translucent pink plastic basket, a hardback book, and five salad plates.
The total: $20.36

This place basically has everything you need, and everything you don't need. I have found many gems here (like-new designer jeans, a ton of original nintendo games, and sweet vintage rock t-shirts to name a few), but only come when I feel like sifting through endless amounts of crap to find them.

what a crap den. its amazing. i advise you to come in with a list/vision because there are at least 100ft of racks filled with women's shirts alone. then theres the womens jeans (another 75ft of rack at least) HUGE store with tons of hidden treasures. a fun place to kill some time if you are into thrifting.
When you first walk into this place, it's impressive. It's HUGE. It's way bigger than Thrift Center in San Carlos and it's 2 stories. Enormous. However, when you start looking around, there are not a whole lot of good finds and the prices are a bit nuts. Kids clothes were about $3-$5 a piece. WAY better deals at the Goodwill.
Of course, I could've just gone on a bad day. The one big plus this place has is that it's just across the street from the Grocery Outlet!
This is garage sale quality stuff so they are tired items but you get great deals. I had to buy children's dress shoes for a project, where Goodwill would have them for$4.99, Savers would have them from $1.99-$3.99. They also have colored tag sales at 50% off. I rarely find clothes at these stores, more housewares stuff. Large store, two story, only street parking and you pay if you park in front, go around the corner for free parking.
Awsome break between the classes. The ultimate resourse for neck ties and unreasonable gadgets I wouldn't be able to live without.
While it is a popular peninsula thrift store (and a RWC institution), it can be a bit a overpriced. They price their books on a rolling scale based on the original price of the books, which means that even a crappy book that has been out for a while can be a couple bucks more than you'd want to pay (most thirft stores have a flat rate for books, or price books at a flat rate with higher rates for recent best sellers). Other than that, it is a very large store where you can find some great items - my favorite gems that I've found include a sega genesis, old Sierra games, and Nintendo cartridges.
i do so enjoy Savers. They have quite the selection and they are pretty inexpensive. Keep an eye out for the colored-tag sales!
Nice shoe selection, though I rarely purchase 2nd hand shoes.
I have found many great finds at this Savers, but sadly it is no longer one of my favorite thrift stores on the peninsula. They definitely raised their prices over the years and I just haven't been able to find anything there in the past few years that has made the price increase worth it. They do have sales on different holidays though and that can bring down the prices a little.
Yes. They have good stuff CHEEEEEEEEEEEP. As in cheep-cheep. Got a cool pair of red plaid velcro-fly pants (velcro? on the fly? you betcha) and a jean skirt here. Michelle got her hot black knee-high boots and the cutest black poodle-wrist-and-neck (you know, form fitting but with poofs at the wrist and collar) black coat here.
My all time favorite thirft store. Similar to Goodwill but much better. Organized by color makes shopping great! Used to have a vintage section but now mixed in. Have found some great gems.
Savers is not my favorite thrift store, because IMO it's a bit overpriced. Although, they do mark down merchandise after a while (they have color tag sales).
It is a fairly large place with a huge selection of clothing, toys, bric-a-brac, and lots and lots of books upstairs. If you're looking for used books for a long airplane flight, you will likely find a bunch here, but you may pay around $1 each or more for them. Like I said, it's a bit more expensive than most other thrift stores. But worth a tumble if you happen to be in downtown RWC.
such a cool thrift store!!!! they have everything from zebra print spandex pants to wacky purses and funny stuff that smells like my grandma!!!!!!!! only bad thing is, they follow me around like im sttealing or something and when i asked for a job, they laughed at me. what discrim9ination!!!!!!!!!!
